Good Morning, Mr. Grey

.
A million laptops just slid off a million moist laps this morning, as the trailer for the mommy-porn-du-jour Fifty Shades of Grey hit. Watch, wonder, cat-call and cream yourselves...
.
.
Sometimes I wonder if there isn't a little bit of misogyny in the collective disdain for this series - it's why I stopped making fun of Twilight eventually, because the fan-boy groans that series was met with felt a wee bit off, like how dare girls have dumb stuff too. Not that I ever got around to Twilight - I accepted they just weren't meant for me and moved on. With Grey though...

... there, seems to be some stuff that's meant for me in this trailer. It's funny, coming on the heels of my recent re-obsession with American Psycho - I don't doubt that the Grey books are shit, I've read passages, they are unbelievably embarrassing, but the fact that a woman is making this movie (like Mary Harron made Psycho) is kind of offering me hope.

Then again, unlike American Psycho, a woman also wrote this claptrap, so maybe my comparison's moot. It's not like Sam "Mrs. Aaron Johnson" Taylor-Wood is spinning around a man's misogynist vision from a feminist perspective. This is all on you, ladies. So hit the jump and put it on you...

I think it could be a fun trashy movie if done right. Weirdly enough I've seen the guy look hotter in magazines, interviews, etc.

Sometimes, when the camera hits just right, Dornan looks like Jonathan Groff.

Yeah, Dornan has looked way hotter in photoshoots than he does in this. To me he looks like Jonathan Groff and Andew Garfield had an oddly tall lovechild.

Also, there are two cliches at play here that make me want to vomit and give up on the movie as a whole entirely. The "just look at how plain I am." boo hoo I'm not pretty enough trope. I love me some Dakota Johnson but I wanted to smack her.

The other being "I'm a bad boy stay away." Any guy ever told me that I woulda been like see ya, point taken I'm gone. I'm all for a mainstream bondage movie, but this ain't it.

Wonderful, now Don Johnson AND his daughter can say, "Yes, I made a movie where I was tied to a bed and had sex!" Did Melanie do one too?

STILL won't pay money to watch some guy smack his girlfriend around.

How far have we come from 'Pretty Woman'? Or rather how far we haven't come ....
